Now you can acquire a unique, original work of art for your home or office or to give as a cherished gift.
Fiber Art for the Home and OfficeUsing fabric as a base medium, Wendy Sheridan creates unique and moving artworks. From realistic "fabric paintings" to abstract geometric designs, her quilts and wall hangings are cherished objects throughout North America. She can work with you or your decorator to match the color pallette of a particular room, creating a piece that is specifically yours. Wendy has very few pieces for sale at any time, preferring instead to make something that reflects the owner's personal taste and personality. Quilts and wall hangings make fantastic gifts for weddings and baby showers. They become cherished items in the home, and pass down through the generations. Wendy labels every quilt she creates with the "story behind the quilt". Wall HangingsWall hangings are fiber art pieces designed to be displayed on a vertical surface. They are finished differently from a bed quilt, in that a hanging sleeve is sewn at the top of the quilt. This sleeve accepts a bar or dowel (depending on the size of the quilt) that is then affixed to the wall using hooks or special quilt hanging brackets. Sizes of wall hangings start from 12 inches by 18 inches and go up from there. The only limitations being the size of the wall on which you intend to hang the quilt. QuiltsQuilts are created be displayed horizontally on a surface such as a bed or draped over a chair or sofa. This category may also include pieced tablecloths, table runners, or even Christmas tree "blankets" (used to hide the unattractive support for your indoor tree). Bed quilts can be created for sleeping or for use as a bedspread. The difference between a bed quilt and a bedspread is the finished size (bedspreads being longer and wider than a typical bed quilt). A hanging sleeve is not used in the construction of a bed quilt. The weight and thickness of the quilt is usually heavier than that of a wall hanging, especially if you desire the quilt to be "extra warm" for winter use. Bed quilts can be made in "standard" comforter or blanket sizes, or in bedspread sizes, designed to reach the floor when laid out on the bed, and provide extra length to cover pillows. Lap quilts and throws are generally smaller than standard blankets, and are used on sofas and chairs as decorating pieces and of course to snuggle under during cold winter months. In order to properly size your bed quilt, you will need to determine the use for the quilt (quilt or bedspread), and the size of your bed (and also the height of your bed in the case of a bedspread). Baby quilts generally are 36 inches by 50 inches (approximately). Lap quilts are approximately 52 inches by 68 inches. MaterialsFor heirloom-quality quilts, Wendy uses 100% cotton fabrics and batting. Fabrics used may be prints, batiks and hand-dyed fabric. All fabric has been pre-washed and pre-shrunk prior to piecing in the quilt. Bed quilts are made to be washable. For the backing fabric, upon request at time of order, Wendy can use 100% cotton flannel. This creates an extra-warm quilt for those cold winter nights. Wendy also creates fabric paintings using Tsukeneiko Fabric Inks. These color-fast inks are like watercolors for fabric, and can be used to create unique designs and fabric art. For wall hangings, a variety of fabric types may be used, depending upon the design of the quilt. Wall hangings are generally not intended to be washed. They may be dry-cleaned if necessary. If you desire a wall hanging that can be washed, please let us know when you place your order. FinishingWendy offers several options for finishing quilts:
